Overview

We booked the room on a visit to Lancaster to visit some relatives. We booked it over the phone on the understanding that it had a wet room facility with a Wheel in sure when we got there only to find that it was a very different story.

Transport & Parking

There were accessible parking spaces in the car park outside the hotel.

Access

0.5

There was a ramp on a heavy entrance door at the main entrance. The room itself was very disappointing. The staff told us that it was a universally accessible room. The first room that we stayed in had two twin beds but apparently this was the only room that was laid out like this. There was very little space to get round the room itself as they were pieces of furniture in the way. My mum who was with me had to move several chairs, and a luggage rack into the bathroom to allow me space to move around the bed. This is not what I would expect from a universally accessible. The bathroom itself was also very small with a toilet tucked into the corner of the bathroom. There was only one handrail beside the toilet which pulled down from the wall. I usually need two handrails either side of me to steady me as my balance is not good. I had to put one of the chairs which was in the bathroom beside me when I was sitting on the toilet to allow me to balance securely. instead of a wet floor shower which is what we expected there was a lowered bath with a shower over it which meant I was unable to get washed apart from sitting on the toilet for the time that we were staying there. Towards the end of our stay we had to move into another universally accessible room to allow another disabled person to move into the one that we were in. The second room was even smaller than the first. It also had a lowered bath and a double bed which apparently is standard in most accessible rooms in the Premier Inn. My mum had to sleep in the same bed as me the second night which meant that she had a very disturbed sleep. Overall and not very pleasant stay.

Toilets

1

The only accessible toilet that I found was the one in my room. This toilet was very small and cramped. It only had one folding handrail next to the toilet. It was very hard to transfer onto as it was located in the corner of the bathroom. There were no accessible toilets available in the Brewers Fayre restaurant the Cottams Feld. either.

Staff

staff were not very helpful at the same time. They said that the rooms had recently been renovated to make them universally accessible. Sarah one of the housekeepers on our floor there are best to help when we asked for extra towels. The staff in the Brewers Fayre restaurant next door were rude and were hoovering round about us when we were trying to eat.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There is an automatic hand sanitiser dispenser on the way into the hotel which was empty. Please premier in consider posting more information about the accessibility of accessible rooms on your website. This would be especially helpful if the Access facility is differ between hotel. If you are not willing to install with rooms in accessible bathrooms then please specify this on your website so that anyone who needs a wet room does not end up booking an accessible room and end up being disappointed.

Photos

Suitcase on one of the twin beds in the first accessible room the space around the beds was very limited for anyone in a wheelchair. Photo shows Space over at the bedroom window next to the bed. The space to move around the bed and I moved here was a very limited This photo shows the toilet tucked in against the wall and positioned right next to the wash hand basin. The red cord was originally tied up, I managed to untie it and I have placed a Red cord Card on the cord. The photo shows a small corridor leading to the bedroom door which is a heavy wooden door which opens in the way so it makes it difficult to open from a wheelchair. Photo shows the entrance to the cotton field restaurant next door to the hotel. There was a lowered kerb further along the pavement to allow flat entrance onto the pavement. The restaurant entrance has heavy wooden doors which have to be pulled to open so would be difficult for any wheelchair user to open independently.
