Overview
I'd definitely stay here again - very convenient for George Square and centre of Glasgow
Transport & Parking
My train came in to Queen Street Station and the hotel was a couple of minutes along on the other side of George Street - on the corner with Montrose St (decent pavement and easy pedestrian crossings which give you plenty of time to cross). It looked like a taxi could stop right outside.
Access
The main door is up several steps, but there's an external lift just to the side. Quite tight. When you get up to the level of the foyer, to enter the building you have to exit the lift and go through a glass door which proclaims itself to be automatic. When I was there it failed to open automatically and the staff couldn't hear me knocking or see me waving, while the lift door attempted to close with me trapped between it and the glass door (Final Destination, anyone?). Eventually I managed to push open the glass door and get into the foyer (cue many apologies from the nice staff). My accessible room was on the first floor. The lifts are teeny weeny and apparently will be replaced soon. They're those annoying ones where you have to swipe your room key and press the button at the same time - beware if your dexterity isn't the best or you don't have two functioning hands! Because the lifts are so wee they get really busy at peak times - factor that in if you need to get somewhere quickly. The usual challenge to get into the room on the scooter (simultaneously swiping key and quickly turning the handle to open the door is tough with only one working hand). As usual in these circumstances I ended up driving the scooter at the door to open it, dodgem style, which worked a treat. The room was pretty good for manoeuvrability - although a wardrobe-style thing stuck out towards the bathroom door - might cause difficulty for a wheelchair. Plenty space to get around, apart from that. A large emergency alarm was laid out on the bed, which I thought was a nice touch - "Don't worry, we've got you!". The bathroom had appropriately lowered sink, loo, mirror etc. LOADS of red cords, all hanging right down to the floor. The shower in my room was over the bath rather than wet-room style - not sure if all the bathrooms in accessible rooms are the same. Bed very comfy (as always with Premier Inn). Very good blackout curtains. Check out is very easy - just deposit your room key in the container in the foyer and go on your merry way. The automatic door to the lift behaved itself when I was leaving!
