Overview

Needed an overnight stay near Eastbourne/Bexhill with wheelchair accessible room. This fitted the bill. Photos of the room facilities available on website, and confirmed by phone. Transport & Parking

We drove. Hotel is at a service area, so easy to find and well served by road links. Unsure about any public transport facilities nearby. Plenty of blue badge parks at hotel, close to entrance. Level pathway to reception and automatic doors.

Access

Easy to get into hotel and to room. Breakfast (and other dining) done in completely separate building. It was raining heavily and windy on the morning we were there, so a 100m 'dash' up to the dining area was not a feasible option - we left without breakfast so have no idea about the accessibility of that. Our accessible room was on the ground floor. Reception informed us of fire drill procedures, and said they would arrange assistance if we needed it for evacuation. Room was spacious, and easy to get wheelchair around in. Grab rails in bathroom by toilet and by roll-in shower with wall mounted shower seat. Bed right height for me - same height as wheelchair, so easy transfer with banana board. However, the bed was very soft, so I fund it very difficult to manoeuve once on the bed. Did not sleep well.

Toilets

The toilet in the bedroom had well positioned grab rails on both sides of the toilet, and a vertical rail on the wall side. Unfortunately the free standing grab rail was very wobbly - a support bar had come adrift. Usable with help from husband. It was a Sunday evening, so did not notify reception until leaving - they marked it as maintenance required. Red emergency cord at full length by toilet. No accessible public toilet as very small reception area

Staff

Staff very friendly and helpful on site and during booking process. Reception informed us of fire drill procedures, and said they would arrange assistance if we needed it for evacuation.
