Overview
The BBC 'campus' at George Heriot's School was easy to find and to get into. Allow extra time for the security checks if you have a show booked. A short path winds its way uphill on to the astro turf lawns of the BBC site.
Transport & Parking
Transport in the area is good if going by public transport. Bus stop right outside for the accessible Lothian buses. Taxis can drop off and there plenty plying their trade in the area.
Access
The access was good. Getting in involved walking along a shrub bordered path as you go up the gentle slop to arrive at the top end of the site. From here you move on to astro turf and go down a large slopped entrance path - very wide and fairly gentle. Once down you can opt for the main performance stage, the bars and cafe, the seating areas, and the smaller performance areas.
Toilets
Big accès fail on the accessible toilet. A porta cabin style with a ramp running parallel to the front of the structure. Such as shame the security fence for the backstage entrance was impeding turning to get on the ramp. Not to mention the staff who had adopted the ramp as their viewpoint thus creating the effect of a queue.
Staff
A very mixed experience. Security great. Meet and greet ignored me. Staff by accessible loo dis-engaged.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Such a shame that the accessible loo wasn't as accessible. Much better last year!
