Overview
The biggest highlight was to discover how accessible the sports complex was.
Transport & Parking
I travelled on the bus to get to the complex and was able to get one that dropped me off fairly nearby. I think I saw a couple of dedicated parking spaces by the front door. There are cobbles to cross before you get to the entrance and this may be tricky for some wheelchair users.
Access
The complex has a number of features to make access easy. There are level access routes to get to all areas of the building; including right down to the archery centre in the basement through to the performance gym and the climbing centre. Several of the pieces of equipment have hi-vis markings, the climbing centre has a sling to help wheelchair users to experience the climbing room. It was easy to navigate around as a visually impaired person and my pal who uses a powerchair user find it easy going.
Toilets
The accessible toilet near the reception was well signposted, fairly spacious and more than adequate.
Staff
Very knowledgeable, right down to information in alternative formats, and very helpful. A great welcome and enthusiasm was evident.
