Overview
This is an accessible beach with a ramp to the beach then complete decking to an area that has sun loungers and umbrellas. There are separate accessible toilets for men and women and life guards have the keys so no one else can use them. This accessible beach is by the lifeguard station and is easily found by signposts. The lifeguards are constantly by this area and if anyone wants to go into the the sea the lifeguards have what I can only describe as a wheel barrow/bike which the disabled person can sit in whilst the lifeguard is pushing them into the sea.
Transport & Parking
Most people would stay in nearby hotels and then go to the beach by scooter or by wheelchair, which I did with my wife.
Access
The signage to the beach was very good. There is a ramp going down to the beach, which is the decked with access to sun loungers and umbrellas. There was ample room for both the disabled person on wheelchair or scooter and their carer. The are was very clean and lifeguards were on site all day.
Toilets
There are two large toilets one for women and one for men with all facilities for the disabled. The life guards had the keys for access so only disabled persons could use them. The were very clean and easy to use.
Staff
The staff that maintained the area were lifeguards and were available all day.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I have never seen an accessible beach before and being an amputee never thought I would actually get near the sea. I don't know if we have anything like this in this country but whet a great idea. The facilities for the disabled in Playa das Americas are very good and the whole area is quite flat and easy to move around.
