Overview

Petworth House is well worth a visit to view the art collection and parkland. The website is very useful and does advise you of the long walk/wheel from the carpark to the house. There is supposed to be a mobility vehicle between the carpark and the house but I did not see it during my 3 hour visit. Plenty of blue badge parking in the main car park, excellent disabled toilets and a cafe with a platform lift. You are also able to go around the 17th century house in a power wheelchair which is very unusual

Transport & Parking

Plenty of blue badge spaces in the main carpark. Website and telephone system mentions blue badge parking in the town which is closer and provides you with sat nav code but there are only 2 spaces.

Access

A great effort has been made to make this very old building wheelchair accessible. Entry to the house is via a ramp which in situe. The staff are very friendly in the house and also by the entrance to the restaurant which requires assistance via a fancy platform lift.

Toilets

There is a disabled toilet by the main ticket office which is spacious. The second toilet is located in the servants quarter not far from the restaurant and is very smart with an electric door, toilet flush, taps and soap dispenser. Both toilets were very clean.

Staff

Helpful and friendly in the ticket office, house and restaurant Plenty of people in wheelchairs on the day on the day I visited which is also a good indication.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Petworth House is set in beautiful landscaped grounds (Capabilty Brown designed) and is more accessible than you think. There is an accessible route around the woods which takes approx 30 minutes. Ground is quite rough but manageable.
