Overview
Penshurst Place is a real jewel in the countryside with beautiful walled gardens and an historic house which is partially accessible. There is blue badge parking for approx 6 - 8 cars, accessible toilets at the entrance and near the main restaurant, two cafes, picnic areas and a wheelchair accessible route around to the house and main restaurant. You can wheel around most of the garden by detouring off the main trail.
Transport & Parking
You need a car to reach Penshurst Place and the disabled car parking is clearly sign posted. There are 6 - 8 disabled parking spaces but these are on thick gravel which is very difficult to wheel over.
Access
There is a wheelchair route provided by the helpful staff but the paths are very very bumpy (understandably because the gardens are very old) which is hard going for wheelchair users. You can go into the Baron's Hall and Nether gallery via portable ramps and view the rest of the house via a DVD. It is worth detouring from the wheelchair route as you can then see most of the beautiful gardens.
Toilets
There are two (one at the visitors entrance by the cafe) and a second in the courtyard near to the main restaurant. Clean and everything was within reach.
Staff
Really friendly and helpful at the entrance and in both the cafe and restaurant.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I would definitely visit again as the gardens were magnificent and just put up with the bumps !
