Overview
Peggy Porschen is a café specialising in ornately decorated cakes. They have 2 branches Chelsea and Belgravia. This review is for their Belgravia café.
Transport & Parking
The nearest tube station is Victoria, which is also now step free. From the tube/ train station it is a good 5 - 8 minutes walk. There are several buses that stop close by. On the first visit it can be a little bit hard to find. However if you walk from the train station along the main road to Victoria Coach Station. The café itself is on Ebury Street, a side street at the back of Victoria Coach Station. The café is very pink and flowery and can be seen in the distance when you turn into Ebury Street.
Access
There is no step free access and there are 2 steps without a handrail into the café. At the entrance there is a sign asking people to queue. However, when we arrived we didn't need to queue up. The café is quite small. It consists of 2 ground floor rooms. The first room also contains the cake counter, at standing height. There is a second room at the back but we didn't go in it. There is some outdoor table and chairs at the front of the café, which is accessed by a single step. The table and chairs are free standing. The chairs are dining chair style with a supportive back rest.
Toilets
There are no accessible toilets. There are toilets in the basement. The stairs down have a handrail but are steep and bend, see photo. However, while I was there I needed the toilet. So when we left we popped into Victoria Coach Station to use their accessible toilet, which requires a RADAR key.
Staff
Staff were very helpful. We were shown to a table when we arrived. (The café doesn't take reservations). Service was friendly and very prompt. When I asked if they had an accessible toilet, the waiter went downstairs to check if the toilets had grab rails, but unfortunately they didn't.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Peggy Porschen is cake heaven. They specialise in cupcakes and layer cakes. I had Glorious Victoria, which is their now take on Victoria Sponge. They also serve a good range of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cold drinks. The décor is very pink, pretty and flowery. Very instagramable. On the shelves are bags, cards, gifts for sale. My tea and cake was about £11, so it is a place for a treat, rather than every day. Cakes are excellent and the décor is fun. Very nice to visit.
