Overview
Papa L's Kitchen serves amazingly delicious African food and cocktails/ mocktails all beautifully presented. There is some step free outdoor seating but inside involves a single step, see photo, and to access some of the tables involves more steps.
Transport & Parking
The restaurant is very close to Piccadilly Circus, in Jermyn Street which is the road that runs parallel to Piccadilly, but is much quieter. Piccadilly Tube Station, the nearest station, is not step free. However, a 5 - 10 minute walk, will take you to Green Park Tube Station which is step free. There are many buses that stop near by either on Piccadilly or Regent Street that are just a couple of minutes walk away.
Access
Outside there are free standing tables and chairs at street level. There is a single step into the restaurant but no handrails. I was there for a friend's birthday, and didn't get the opportunity to speak to staff to see if they had a portable ramp. There are double, manual entrance doors. Inside there are about 4 tables, which do not involve further stairs. If you were going and you required minimum stairs I would suggest contacting the restaurant to book a specific table at the front of the restaurant. The tables are nicely spaced out. There was a short staircase with handrail, leading to more tables and the bar. I did not go there, so unable to comment.
Toilets
I did not explore their toilet. I do not know if they have an accessible toilet. Whatever toilet they have will involve going up the small staircase.
Staff
Staff were amazing and very friendly. They were really lovely. Very welcoming. Service was fantastic.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
We loved our food. I am vegetarian and my friend is vegan and there was plenty of choice for both of us on the menu. We both chose Tempura Okra with lemon and homemade chilli salt for our starter and it was really lovely. For mains my friend had Chargrilled Yam with tomato and mix bean broth and I had a Lentil and Sweet Potato Curry with coconut yoghurt and chickpea pancake, we ordered a portion of rice and another of broccoli. All the desserts were vegan, my friend had Banana Cake with cinnamon caramel and plantain crisps and I had Winter Fruit Crumble with Madagascan Vanilla Gelato. We both had mocktails. It was a excellent meal and we enjoyed everything we had. Encase you are wondering the food was delicious but not spicy hot Please note that the restaurant is currently (February 2024) open Wednesday – Saturday 5pm till kitchen closes at 10pm. We enjoyed the current Pre-Theatre offer Order 3x courses from the A la Carte menu and have 25% off your final bill every Weds-Sat from 5pm-6.30pm (maximum 4 guests). This is a lovely restaurant, close to the shops and theatres. Highly recommend it. Would very happily go back.
