Overview
Palais Lascaris is a seventeenth-century aristocratic building in Nice's Old Town, a beautiful baroque-style ‘palace’. It houses a museum of art and music of the 17th and 18th centuries. If you are interested in history or architecture you will love this museum. It's a rare opportunity to visit a historic town house in the Old Town. The building and collection look amazing but there is no step free access or accessible toilet, and I was very disappointed not to be able to go round it. I only saw the ground floor and missed seeing the first and second floors.
Transport & Parking
The nearest tram stop is Cathedrale and from there is about a 5 minute walk. It's located in one of the side streets in Nice's Old Town and can be a little tricky to find. I suggest making your way the Cathedral and with your back to the cathedral walk up rue Rossetti towards the Chateau, turn left on rue Droite and the museum is on your left hand side.
Access
There are 2 steps at the entrance, see photo. On the ground floor level there is a ticket desk at standing height, a small shop and a room with some musical instruments, see photo. Then there is a staircase leading to the upper floors. The first part of the staircase to the landing has handrails on both sides. When the stairs turn there is no handrail and there are about a further 6 - 7 steps to the first floor. I got as far as the landing and retraced my steps and went back. Personally I didn't feel safe climbing the steps without a handrail. I noticed that the stairs leading from the first to second floors was narrower and didn't have a handrail.
Toilets
None
Staff
The member of staff on the reception was extremely kind. When I arrived he offered to help me with the stairs. Initially I tried to do this on my own and when I turned back and I went in to speak to him. Again he offered to help me but I explained to him that as I had recently had surgery I didn't want to take the chance. However, I get the impression is regularly supports people up and down the stairs.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The photos I have taken are from the ground floor room and the staircase only. At time of visiting (December 2019) the cost of admission was 10 euros per adult. However, the museum is just one of about 10 art galleries/ museums run by Nice municipality, and the 10 euros admission ticket lasts for 24 hours and during that time you can visit all the other museums. Alternatively you can pay 20 euros and the pass lasts for 7 days. I took this option and through it was good value for money. The museums are not ticketed off so I assume within the 24 hours/ 7 days ticket you can re-visit any of the museums.
