Overview

The Palace Green Library is a place for both researchers and visitors to look at Durham University's treasures. Their collections include over 70,000 books printed before 1850 and over 100 medieval manuscripts. Facilities include the Courtyard Cafe, a gift shop, toilets and a learning centre and the building has been adapted wherever possible for wheelchair access.

Transport & Parking

Visitor parking is not available on the Palace Green between Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle but exceptions may be made for disabled customers. However there is a Durham Road User Charge (only around £2 I think) from 10am-4pm Monday to Saturday. Access

The Library has been adapted wherever possible, a platform lift from the main entrance to reception is available. From the reception there is wheelchair access around the galleries on the ground floor and accessible toilets. There is also a platform lift that takes visitors to the Wolfson gallery on the first floor.

Toilets

The toilet was easy to find and did have grab rails. As I'm not a wheelchair user I don't know how much space there is but from what I can see there looks to be enough room to manoeuvre.

Staff

All staff are very kind and helpful and made the day an overall pleasant experience.
