Loved this place, quite a lot of steps down to this basement bar but well worth checking out

Overview
The receptionist at my accommodation recommended Palac Pod Baranami. It's a bar and cabaret venue located in the basement of a building on Rynek Glowny, the main square in Karkow's Old Town. Even with directions it took a little bit of finding, which made it all the more special when I found it. I visited mid afternoon an it was the perfect place to escape the crowds of the main square. The eclectic décor, doilies on the tables, art work and bric a brac, makes this a special and unusual place to visit. I loved it. Although disabled access is not ideal, if you can I would highly recommend this as somewhere to visit.
Transport & Parking
Rynek Glowny is about a 10 minute walk from Krakow's main railway station. There are several trams which stop close by. I didn't use the trams when I was in Krakow, but I saw plenty of them and they all appeared modern and had a wheelchair sign by one of the doors. The main square is pedestrianised but taxis are plentiful and could stop nearby.
Access
The bar is tucked away on the main square. At one side of the square there is the Town Hall Tower, see photo. Make for this and look for a branch of Starbucks (2019) which is on a street corner of the Old Town Square and Swietej Anny. Facing Starbucks with your back to the main square, there is a doorway on the right which leads into a small courtyard. Walk into the courtyard and then on your right hand side you will see the entrance to the bar. There are a couple of free standing tables and chairs outside. The bar is in the basement, down one flight of stairs with a handrail. On entering the building the lighting levels are lower than outside. There is a bar which is at standing height and there are several small rooms off it with free standing tables and chairs. Some dining chairs, others soft armchairs. There is a separate room where they have their cabaret on Saturday evenings.
Toilets
I didn't visit the toilets during my visit.
Staff
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. They offered help for me to take my drink to one of the tables. They also let me have a look at the Cabaret although it wasn't open when I visited.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This was one of the real discoveries of my holiday. I visited Monday afternoon and I felt like I had the place to myself. It was so lovely and relaxing to sit there, enjoying the eclectic décor and my drink and reading my book. It was a welcome contrast to the business outside in the main square. I'm sure it gets busier later in the day. I loved it and I would not hesitate to return. Highly recommend.
