Overview
The Paisley Gift Cart, previously the White Cart Gift Company, is a treasure trove of gifts, cards and books. I enjoy popping in occasionally to see what they have in stock. Many of the items available to buy are from Paisley locals. I especially like the book selection as many of them are written by people I’ve met through Paisley’s prominent poetry scene. With ramp access, a great selection and friendly staff, you won’t find a better gift shop in all of Paisley.
Transport & Parking
Located on the High Street, there’s no dedicated parking. There are a handful of accessible and standard parking spaces at the top of the High Street, up a slight incline. Nearby New Street has four accessible spaces, but the street is on a severe slope. I prefer to park on Causeyside Street outside the Paisley Centre, where there are 8 spaces. Entering the Paisley Centre, taking the lift, and exiting via the High Street will bring you close to the Gift Cart. There are bus stops at the top of the High Street and the bottom across from the Piazza Shopping Centre. Paisley Gilmour Street Railway Station is a short distance from the High Street, the route covers cobblestones and concrete paving.
Access
Paisley Gift Cart is accessible to most with ramp access into the shop. The ramp is steep, but I found it manageable with a manual wheelchair. The front door is usually pinned open and there’s no call button. The gifts on display are split into defined sections, making them easy to browse. There are some high shelves, but the staff are helpful and will happily bring things down for you to take a closer look. The walls are lined with a variety of items, circuiting the cabinets in the middle of the store and leading back to the entrance via the sales counter.
Toilets
There are no public toilets at the Gift Cart.
Staff
The staff are always pleasant, eager to help find the perfect gift for the occasion. I went in with a specific idea, a “Highland Cow thing” and they quickly found a key ring, a coaster, a glass, a stuffed toy and an enamel pin. I went with the enamel pin in the end, but it was nice to have options. Elaine, who runs the shop, is always a bright presence, even when campaigning against some local parking changes.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I’d suggest the Gift Cart to anyone looking for that perfect gift. With a solid selection of stock and superb staff, you won’t find a better gift shop in Paisley.
