Overview
Paignton is a traditional sea side resort. There is a beach, pier (see separate review), harbour, town centre with amusement arcades, gift shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.
Transport & Parking
Paignton train station has step free access. Trains go from here direct to London. There are several buses that go to Paignton and the surrounding areas.
Access
Paignton sea front and immediate surrounding area is flat. The main shopping centre has some high street shops plus going down to the sea front are lots of gift shops and places to eat. There is a traditional step free pier (see separate review). There is a working harbour which is rather charming and there is level access to it. There's a lot of seating on the sea front. It's also home to the Dartmouth Steam Railway (see separate review). There is a Vue cinema on the sea front and the Palace Theatre with step free access (see separate review) in the town centre. There are also a couple of public parks. I visited Oldway Mansion Gardens (see separate review). In the children's play area on the sea front there is an ability swing, which is gated and opened with a radar key.
Toilets
I used the accessible toilet near the railway station in Parkside/ Victoria Square. This was clean and spacious with grab rails. There is also an accessible toilet next to the pier but I didn't use these facilities.
Staff
Generally staff in shops and restaurants were very friendly.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This is a traditional sea side resort and it's a little bit run down in places, and may not be to everyone's taste. However, it has great level access to the main areas, there's plenty of places to eat and drink, and everything you want is on your doorstep. It's a good resort to base yourself in.
