Overview
Oudorperhout Is an area of meadow, waterways and reed beds on land that was reclaimed in the early 17th century. Criss-crossed by cycle paths and footpaths, and surrounded by built-up areas, it’s surprisingly rural, yet close to the city centre . A good place for birdwatching. The four windmills have been beautifully restored in recent years.
Transport & Parking
We can’t comment on the parking. The number 10 bus from Alkmaar Train Station passes through Oudorp at the eastern end of the area, but them buses were on strike the day we visited. We walked/wheeled from 5ge city centre and reached the nature reserve in about twenty minutes.
Access
No problems - paths are either paved or tarmac and the slopes up to bridges are shallow.
Toilets
There are no toilets of any kind.
Staff
Not applicable, though conservationists have clearly done a brilliant job.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The explanatory notices are only in Dutch and offer no help to the visually limited. It is a beautiful, windswept landscape and the bird and insect life will appeal to nature lovers.
