Overview

This new property has been meticulously designed for those who are less physically able, creating a homely but fully accessible environment to relax and enjoy. The owners clearly have an eye for luxury and comfort and Otter Pool Barn really does have a 'wow factor' with its unique architectural features and subtle modern accessories. It sits on an elevated but level rural site with beautiful views across the countryside and easy access to both the property, lake view and terrace with its spa and endless swim pool. Although the property has been carefully designed with the less physically able in mind, it is equally suited to mixed groups or extended families and provides a safe but exciting venue for children.

Transport & Parking

We were able to drive into and turn in the dedicated car park with ease. In our opinion this area is big enough to accommodate several minibuses or at least six cars without obstructions. The site is flat with easy access level pathways into the accommodation and around the site. The Barn is located a short drive from the centre of Ilfracombe which has a number of town centre and beach car parks.

Access

As non-disabled visitors we may have missed some details but I went with a critical eye and could not pick up anything that could present a problem. The owners have been meticulous in their planning and designed every aspect of the property to cater for people with disabilities. Obvious features include: no steps; lift to first floor; wide hallways and door ways with pocket doors to maximise access space; assistance call systems; low level switches, hoists, specialist beds and low level bathroom/w.c suites with grab rails etc; careful colour differentiation for those with sight impairments; specially designed signage.

Toilets

As with 'Access' above, all loos have been designed with the disabled in mind. There is also a room designed for a 'live-in' carer if this is needed.

Staff

We met with the owners, Kate and Simon, and their son who were extremely helpful and well informed. They have nurtured this project from its inception with the key objective of delivering a first class holiday venue that can provide the very best facilities for less able people. We think they have succeeded!

We would not hesitate to recommend this property. If there is anything that could be improved on, we couldn't find it but have no doubt that Simon and Kate would welcome and act on any feedback
