Overview
The Opera House which dates back to the 1880s, is ornate and opulent. I went to attend a ballet performance. This is my second visit and this time I sat in the stalls. I did a previous Euan's Guide review of the Opera House but from sitting in the one of the boxes. Please read both reviews if you are thinking of visiting as I hope it will help you with deciding where you would like to sit.
Transport & Parking
The Opera House is in Vieux Nice, the old town, and it's entrance is one block away from the sea front, where several buses stop close by.
Access
I was in the stalls. There is a flight of stairs with handrails to get there or alternatively there was a lift. I was told to take the lift to the second floor and then I found I had to walk down a few steps to the foyer of the stalls. The foyer is where a bar is, which is at standing height and sells drinks and some cake. There is limited bench seating here. From the foyer the stalls are step free on a gentle slope down towards the stage. I sat in row B and had an excellent view of the stage. There is a central, straight aisle but stall seats can also be reached from the end of each row although these aisles are narrower and follow the shape of the seating rows.
Toilets
There was an accessible toilet on the ground floor.
Staff
Staff were friendly and welcoming. On arrival staff checked your tickets at the door and gave directions of where to go. In the interval I had to queue at the bar as it was busy but service was prompt.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I loved my visit. Personally I preferred sitting in the stalls as I had a better view than I did from the box last year, plus the foyer bar is on the same level as the entrance to the stalls. When I was booking the first couple of rows of the stalls were cheaper than the rest of the stalls. My seat on the left end of row B was very close to the orchestra but it wasn't too loud. I loved my visit and can't wait to go again.
