Overview
I stayed on this site for 3 nights for a work trip, to enable me to visit an office in Newcastle. It was a good location but for a wheelchair user, travelling alone, it certainly wasn't an easy site. The site is on a steep slope which makes it difficult to get around but the views and the surrounding area are absolutely stunning! If you can get off the site, there are some easier walks along the cliff paths.
Transport & Parking
Getting there was easy. It isn't far off the A19, using pretty good roads. On arrival, the warden came out to meet me, which saved me getting out of the motorhome. All pitches are tricky though. They are gravel, surrounded by grass - not easy to drive or walk on, and even worse for wheelchairs!
Access
Most of the site has tarmac paths, though one section is gravel. Once on the actual site, getting around was okay, but getting from the pitches to the facilities block, bins and reception was really difficult. The paths are steep! I found the path up the side that goes past the motorhome service point the easiest to use. Around the facilities block, there is a level path. That takes you to the accessible shower/toilet, laundry, information area, bins, etc. Once you're in that area, it's all very easy. It's getting there that is tricky. Similarly, getting off site is steep but once off the site, there is a nice cliff path walk towards Whitley Bay, or you can go the other way on a normal pavement to Seaton Sluice. That is a long slow hill but a lovely wide pavement.
Toilets
The accessible toilet and shower room were fine. Grab rails in the right places, shower seat, etc. I think there would have been plenty of room for me, my chair and my assistance dog. However, the idea of climbing the hill to get there, with a bag of shower stuff on my lap didn't appeal. I used my own toilet and shower instead.
Staff
The staff were lovely but other than arrival and departure, I didn't really see them. They did reserve me an 'accessible pitch'. I think this was just more level than the other ones. It wasn't really accessible at all.
