Overview
There are five beaches in Barcelona, Nova Icària is the most accessible. There are ramps down to the beach and then if you continue walking you will find the disabled area. This is a free service run by the Barcelona Council. The floor is covered with boards leading from the path to an area with chairs and sun loungers. There is a disabled toilet and an accessible changing room, along with accessible showers. The best part was the water wheelchairs! Staff will push you down into the sea and bring you back out. They have transfer boards, life jackets and floats. The staff can stay with you in the sea if required or you can wave them down to collect you from the sea. The volunteer staff were so friendly! . The area of sea infront of it is separated from the rest of the beach by floating wires meaning that no one gets in the way. Highly recommended this for any disabled travellers wanting a beach day in Barcelona.
