Overview
Church of Notre Dame du Port is a neo classical church overlooking Nice Port. On Sunday afternoons during the winter season it plays host to free classical music concerts performed by Orchestre d'Harmonie.
Transport & Parking
Port Lympia is the final stop on the Line 2 tram. From the station there are stairs with handrail or a lift to road level where the church is. Several buses stop close by too.
Access
There is a ramp on the left hand side, when you face the church. Then there is a small ramp to the entrance. Once inside the church is level. There are fixed rows of bench seating with back support and foot rests.
Toilets
Didn't see any toilets, so unable to comment.
Staff
I had no dealings with any staff.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The orchestra is made up of about fifty musicians for the most part holders of conservatory prizes or for the youngest of the upper classes of the CNRR which then find a place of practice of high level. All genres are featured (classical music, film music, musicals and light music, medleys, jazz standards ...) and every week a different program is proposed in the gardens of the Cimiez arena or in the bandstand of from the garden Albert 1st from May to October and in the churches of the city (mainly the church of the port) during the winter period. The concert was very popular and doors opened about 45 minutes prior to the performance and the church filled up quickly. I advise gettign there early. The concert I attended inclued Handel's Water Music and lasted about 45 minutes. The quality of the musicians was outstanding. The church overlooks Nice Port which is home to large boats and some cafes. It was raining when I visited but it is an area which I looks nice to explore and could be combined with the concert.
