Overview

The station was easily accessible and the staff in the booking office very helpful. You travel in the guards van which has slightly limited view of the countryside but you hear a lot more of what is happening and they are all enthusiasts! On the day they can tell you in the booking office which trains will be steam and which are not so you can plan accordingly. You can get in and out at all stations but not all towns where there are stations have readily accessible cafes.

Transport & Parking

Whitby is were we parked and be aware in the disabled bay parking bays you are limited to two or three hours. In the pay and display on the road you can park all day with a blue badge. Some of the car parks are pay even with the blue badge. We parked at the top of the town and walked down. It is less easy to walk up at the end of the day.

Access

The stations are all accessible easily and there are the usual ramps into the guards van and the staff are very good in making you feel secure when getting into the van. In some vans you can get into the loo in some you cannot. They are happy for you to sit by the windows and watch the scenery go by.

Toilets

One guards van had an accessible toilet, Whitby and Pickering stations have good disabled toilets.

Staff

They all went out of their way to help you and this is so different from British Rail. there are refreshments on the train as well

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The towns and villages are not always disabled friendly. I had a major problem at Pickering and complained about the tourist information center, whilst open it did not have any information as to which cafe's or hotels were accessible or had accessible toilets. An email has been sent and a reply received. I will say no more!
