Lovely independent wee pub and beer garden

Overview

This is a magical wee find off Jane Street - you might not expect such a lovely bar and beer garden in this part of Leith that is quite industrialised. There are lots of drinks to try- pilsners, larger, stout, IPAs etc made in the brewery that is only metres away from the bar. The staff are great at talking to you about what is available. It can get busy in the garden when the sun is out. Dog friendly.

Transport & Parking

Disabled parking is a bit non-existent along Jane Street. However, the venue is not far from Leith Walk which is serviced well by trams and buses. The closest tram stop is at the foot of the walk, but if you get off at Balfour it is a nicer downhill journey, if a little further. I've taken photos of the pavements in this area. They are not great (obviously not the venue's fault, but if you rely on wide paths have a quick look).

Access

There is a long path leading from the entrance to the taproom, and no stairs to get into the taproom, which is a pretty decent size. The beer garden is gravelled and has a curb around it - approx 1inch in height. I don't recall seeing the curb dropped at any point. Perhaps the staff have some mats to help anyone using wheels to get into this area, I'm not sure. I've left a photo of my dog on the gravel - if you use a wheelchair or powerchair this might help.

Toilets

3

Good points: there are only 2 toilets and they are both accessible with outwards opening doors. Mirrors and sinks at low heights. Foldable baby changes stored away. The toilets are really clean, and have enough room in them to also fit a carer. You can see a lot of care has gone into the decoration of the loos. Not so good points: there were no grab bars or handrails. No emergency red cords. Some of the bins need moving so a wheelchair user could get right next to the loo. Please see my photos to help you decide if these loos would meet your needs before going.

Staff

I've always found the staff here very friendly. Very knowledgeable about all things beer and happy to let you try a few samples before deciding which drink you would like. It's a really happy, friendly vibe that they have created here.
