Overview
Visited for breakfast in the cafe and for a browse in the farm shop. Easy access for wheelchair users. All at ground level with wide doorways. Well spaced out cafe with a choice of different types of seating and tables at various heights. Great views and a choice of table service or self service. Staff happy to alter meals and portion sizes to suit limited appetites. Log fire in the center of the cafe made the large space warm, cosy and welcoming. Views of the bird feeders a surprise treat in winter!
Transport & Parking
Plenty of parking with several well marked disabled parking bays right outside the door and level access. Access by public transport would be difficult though due to the busy road at the nearest bus stop in Balmalcom and the potholed farm track from the bus stop to the cafe/shop.
Access
Wheelchair access excellent - all on the level with wide access doors and well spaced seating in the cafe. Good space to navigate the farm shop. No high shelves and staff happy to assist both in the shop and cafe. N.B Outdoor play areas not included in this review and the outdoor areas are hilly. There are picnic tables and a viewing area which would be suitable for wheelchair users or people using other mobility aids but we didn’t’ use them on this visit.
Toilets
There is a very good dual sided disabled accessible toilet with space for a carer. Separate toilets for children and baby changing area. Very clean
Staff
Staff were excellent. Took the time to ensure we were comfortably seated, knew where everything was and listened carefully when we ordered - often a challenge in a busy cafe when trying to order with aphasia! Altered portion sizes to suit a reduced appetite and suggested particularly wonderful cakes. Took the time to chat and were very welcoming. Staff in the shop helped with packing and were very friendly. Did not feel rushed - a very enjoyable visit.
