Overview
First Visit to eye clinic since COVID, less busy and felt safe. Plenty of safety measures in place, formerly was the main hospital, so reasonably accessible .There is an accessible café on site as well
Transport & Parking
I travelled by wheelchair taxi, but plenty of dedicated accessible parking near the main entrance. There is a regular public bus service to the treatment centre , with a dedicated bus stop within the grounds
Access
Main Entrance has a Large revolving door which can be slowed down and stopped for disabled access using dedicated button All floors accessible by lift One way system in place with COVID restrictions on stairwells, clearly signposted Plenty of seating in foyer to rest, some areas are quite a walk for those with walking difficulties, but if you ask at the desk in the foyer, they will summon a volunteer to help you with a chair, and plenty of chairs available in the foyer, if you have someone to help you. Good signage, plenty regarding COVID safety measures, signage is much improved from when it was the main hospital Main sign includes information regarding where disabled toilets are allocated
Toilets
Was advised in the eye clinic not to use the accessible toilet in outpatients as there was not room for a wheelchair! There is an accessible toilet off the main foyer, plenty of room etc. Only fault I would point out is that the toilet has only one grab rail at the side, and I need 2 to push myself up. There was one against the wall which wasn’t much good
Staff
Fantastic, friendly and welcoming, made me feel safe
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The eye clinic, used to always be chocabloc, but with the new safety measures, it was actually a quicker and less stressful visit. Screens in place, wearing of masks ,one way systems in place, & limited amount of patients in clinic at one time. Would have expected to see more hand sanitising stations, they were there, but given the size of the place would have expected to see more
