Overview
Large Supermarket in Dumbarton. Has just been refurbished and had a change of lay-out. Generally access is good but a couple of changes could make it even better.
Transport & Parking
The store has a large (free) car park immediately outside, which includes a number of marked disabled bays. It is all on one level, with flat entrance to shop. The nearest train station is Dumbarton Central. Dumbarton East train station is also nearby but note that this is not accessible for anyone using a wheelchair or with mobility difficulties. There are buses servicing the area.
Access
Flat entrance, automatic doors. New barriers/gates have been installed as you go into the store, but these also open automatically. Flooring is smooth and on one level throughout. Aisles wide enough to get down. As with all supermarkets, add some shelf displays could be put of reach if you are in a wheelchair, you may need assistance. Noticed a powered sit-on scooter with trolley you can borrow. Also a trolley with a seat at the front (similar to where you would see a child seat on a trolley) which says it can take a person up to weight of 35kg. I hadn't seen one like it before. I could not see a trolley which you could fit over your own wheelchair (particularly if you can't transfer). There are basic manual wheelchairs you can borrow for while in the store.
Toilets
Disappointed when saw the shop has been refurbished, to find the toilets could still use some improvements. The actual decor is modern and in-keeping with the other toilets. The toilets are on left side just as you enter the store. The accessible toilet has good signage including one which says that not every disability is visible. The toilet is not that large, but was also cluttered, and when I was there, quite untidy with toilet roll on the floor. It has a red cord but this is short and does not go near the floor - it now sports a Euans Guide card! The toilet has a fold down support bar to the left (if on the toilet) and fixed wall bar to the right. The flush is a sensor but is in quite an awkward place, between the toilet and wall meaning you have to reach across toilet. On the plus side, the baby change facilities are in a separate place.
Staff
I did not have need to speak to staff this visit, but generally have found them helpful if I've needed to ask for things
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This store has its own petrol station in car park. Also has small garden section and cafe.
