Overview
This is a lovely pub in the heart of Bow, with great service, full step-free access, an excellent accessible toilet, and lovely staff
Transport & Parking
The nearest step-free station is Bow Church DLR, which is 0.6 miles away. The pub is very near Mile End road, which is served by several bus routes. I would not dream of trying to park in this area.
Access
There is a step at the main entrance, and the pub has two strange-looking but perfectly safe and adequate rubber wedges which serve as a kind of ramp to overcome the step (see my photo below). I felt safe and comfortable using these strange objects to enter and exit the pub in my powered wheelchair. There is spacious step-free access throughout the entire pub.
Toilets
The pub has a very good accessible toilet, well laid-out, accessible by RADAR key. Don't worry if you don't have a RADAR key, the staff have one to hand and will unlock the door for you. There is a small detail about the toilet which needs to be sorted out: the red emergency cord had been tied up around a grab-rail. This is dangerous. The red cord must hang freely all the way to the floor at all times so that it can be reached in the event that someone falls over and needs to call for assistance. If the cord is unreachable, a dangerous situation can ensue if help cannot be promptly summoned. Please, Morgan Arms, keep this red cord hanging free all the way to the floor at all times.
Staff
We were served by someone with enormous charm and friendliness, he had a lovely manner, and it was a pleasure to interact with him. He was patient, helpful and highly professional. Top marks.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The food is good but not outstanding, and rather pricy. The apple crumble was excellent, but the custard thin and lumpy. Overall our experience of this pub was positive and very happy. Improvements that could be made are only two: - Keep the red emergency cord in the toilet hanging free all the time, as mentioned above - Teach the chef that custard must be made slowly, cautiously, and with patience, to avoid lumps!
