Overview
Located just off the A71 at Wilkieston on the western edge of Edinburgh this is a relatively new museum built up through the owner's private collection started in early childhood and added to by his army service and sponsored donations. Exhibits from WW1 onwards covering Army, Navy and Air Forces. Uniforms, medals, armaments, photographs, models and equipment from motorcycles to ration books make for an interesting few hours. Not so much a café as such but tea, coffee, biscuits and cuppa soup are available from the friendly guy in charge whose name escapes me. Wheelchair and boot scooter accessible but rather high kerb to negotiate but sufficient room once inside all on the one level. Not sure about nearby public transport.....best to use car to co-ordinates [from Google Maps] 55.899433, -3.406538
Transport & Parking
Small mainly gravel car park....no specific disabled parking. No nearby bus stops that I am aware of.
Access
Friendly staff eager to assist as much as possible.
Toilets
Normal disabled loo, clean and with grab rails. Would take a wheelchair ok.
Staff
Very friendly and knowledgeable particularly as it is his own privately built-up collection, and he makes a good cup of tea.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Pleasant few hours exploring and reading about the various exhibits particularly when presented in a friendly low-key manner where hands on is actually encouraged.
