Overview

When arriving at this particular Mcdonalds I was impressed to see that the main entrance into the store is a slopped access and so wheelchair users can easily enter and exit the building. The staff both on dining area and behind the counter were very friendly and did not treat my friend who is a wheelchair user any different to how they treat me.

Transport & Parking

The Mcdonalds is located in York city centre and so has no car park, although it is based on a road where bus stops and other pubic transport is close by.

Access

The premises entrance was sloped and so getting the wheelchair up and into the building was relatively easy. The door is a push from the outside which could cause issues if a wheelchair user is alone, although the staff are quick to come and help. The counter to order from was a little too high for wheelchair users and so can make them feel spoken down to. Level access around the ground floor of the building with plenty of spaces to sit suitable for a wheelchair user and the people who accompany them. Could easily access the condiments bar in the wheelchair with minimal effort required.

Toilets

4.5

The normal public toilets are on the first floor although at the back of the store there is a disabled toilet. Although to get to this toilet there is quite a small space to manoeuvre the wheelchair to access this, this becomes increasingly busy if the store is busy and all tables are occupied as difficult to manoeuvre between them. Once in the toilet, spacious, clean, stocked up and all necessary items/equipment was of a suitable height.

Staff

3.5

The counter staff were quite rude when asked for help to carry the trays of food due to being a busy hour, although the dining area staff were very polite and helpful, jumping in and offering to help carry the tray and collect any condiments we may need which we forgot. Not too overpowering.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

An improvement would be an area on the counter which is slightly lower for wheelchair users to access and be able to order their own food comfortably promoting their independence.
