Overview

Macquarie Street has Sydney's first public building. Running from the harbour with The Royal Botanic Gardens on one side and the CBD on the other. The historical buildings include The State Library of NSW, Parliament House, Sydney Hospital, The Mint, Hyde Park Barracks and St Mary' Cathedral. Cross College Street to Hyde Park and enjoy the Australian gardens towards the Pool of Reflection at the ANZAC Memorial. Take some time to traverse along Art Gallery Road to The Art Gallery of NSW. If the day is fine a stroll through the Domain gardens to Mrs Macquaries Point which gives stunning views over the Opera House to The Sydney Harbour Bridge. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants with tables spilling on to the pavements, one for fun is Andrew Boy Charlton Swimming Centre Cafe which looks over to the Sydney Fleet Base. Plenty to enjoy. Transport & Parking

The rating is two star as there could be more parking bays for the disabled near attractions like the Art Gallery of NSW. We can park on the street free with an Australian disability parking permit but check your permit is recognized if it's from outside Australia before parking as fines are steep. Trains take visitors to Circular Quay - there is a lift up to the Cahill Expressway which allows a downhill descent to Macquarie Street. Buses are generally accessible into the CBD but the geography of Sydney means there are hills/ slopes to navigate.

Access

The State Library of NSW and The Art Gallery of NSW are fabulously easy. Emily and I can go on a rainy day as always interesting exhibitions and good cafes for coffee and a cake if you fancy! Just remember to rub the snout of ll Porcellino - the bronze boar outside The Sydney Hospital for luck as you are passing. Another attraction further along College Street is The Australian Museum, easily accessible with changing exhibits.

Toilets

All the accessible buildings have accessible toilets. Circular Quay has accessible public toilets.

Staff

Always hard to generalize but I'd say you'll find people helpful and friendly.
