Lupe Pintos has 2 deli shops one in Glasgow on theGreat Western Road, the other here in Edinburgh at Leven Street, Tollcross, Edinburgh. They have a very detailed and well informed website which has a walk around tour of both shops, so you can see or someone can describe the shop layout and what’s on offer. It’s a Deli influenced by Spanish, American and predominantly Mexican produce, so be prepared for prices that reflect the authentic sourcing and importing - but don’t allow that to deter you from spending lots of time appreciating the friendly, welcoming and informative staff who are on hand to give not only a description of the food and drink available, but can vouch for it being tried, tasted and tested by them. They make up their own salsa, guacamole, chipotle fajita mix and the tortilla chips and corn wraps are well renowned. Lupes have ingenious and inspiring ways of attracting new devotees of all things Mexican by having cooking challenges involving local pubs and bars. See their website for more details. Transport & Parking

What’s really handy and informative on the website is parking availability informing you of permitted waiting times, bus lane operations. Edinburgh’s bus services on this main route heading south and north respectively is 10, 11, 15, 16, 23, 27, 36 and 45 the southbound stop is right out side the shop, the northbound the other side of the road with a pedestrian crossing 40 m away. There is ample and suitable parking.

Access

The Deli is all on one level, there is an island in the central part of the shop made up of produce for sale. It is tight for a wheel chair, but no shortage of support and assistance if needed, especially anything out of reach.

The owner is well travelled and well informed to be able to deliver any information and his own tried and tasted opinion on the produce is always available, he and his staff can’t do enough to assist.

Lupes is no exception, this independent and speciality Deli gives not only an authentic variation of Latin produce but a brilliantly experiential visit and at the end of it great recipes and a taste that wants you to go back for more.
