Overview

I grew up in Louth, a lovely little market town, and as a child I would often visit the local library. After my recent visit, I found that the library has various disabled facilities. The library is accessible for wheelchair users by providing a number of facilities such as a dropped curve of the pavement to the library entrance as well as being spacious to allow easy maneuvering of a wheelchair. There is limited availability for parking, although there is a driveway located outside which allows cars to drop off and pick up directly outside the library entrance. There are also facilities for those with visual impairment, including large print books and audio books, and assistance dogs are also permitted. The library has good signage including maps of the building.

Transport & Parking

There is a parking area located outside the Library, but this appears to only allow for 2 - 3 cars. There is a small driveway area in front of the library which allows for drop off and pick up directly outside the library entrance. There are several car parks located in close proximity to the library, as well as off road parking.

Access

There is wheelchair access to the library as there is a dropped curer on the pavement, which creates a slight ramp up to the entrance doors. This brickwork on this part of the pavement id textured to assist those who are visually impaired to locate the entrance. The main entrance and foyer entrance both have automatic doors, and are wide to allow for wheelchair access. In the main entrance foyer there is good signage and a map of the building, and also clear signage to inform that assistance dogs are permitted. Within the library there are multiple sized worktops to suit people standing, sat in a chair or wheelchair. There is a lift which allows access to the first floor where the toilets are located. The lift has space for a wheelchair user, and also has a grab rail for support. The library provides facilities for individuals with visual impairments, such as large print books and audio books.

Toilets

There are disabled toilet facilities in the library but these were allocated on the first floor of the building where there is a function room. However, there is sufficient lift access to the disabled toilet upstairs, and the area upstairs is very spacious for wheelchair access. The disabled toilet had a large door which allowed easy wheelchair access, and space within the toilet for maneuvering a wheelchair. There was a grab rail which is beneficial in aiding support when transferring on and off the toilet.

Staff

The library reception desk is central in the library and is in view at the entrance of the library. There was always a member of staff behind the reception desk so staff support is available at all times. Staff presented as very welcoming and friendly, seemed helpful in supporting other people in the library.
