Overview
Better Mobility was asked to undertake the Bermondsey Brewery Tour to assess for wheel chair access at four brewery sites. Commencing at Bermondsey City Hall. the group headed off to Southwark Brewery. The first of four micro breweries on the leisurely walking tour. Prior to sampling the delicious beer, a fascinating talk from Pete aka "Big Bear" on the origins of beer kept all enthralled. Make the most of the disabled toilet facilities here, as our team found the next brewery, the Anspach & Hobday lacking in wheelchair accessible facilities - however, this is now being addressed by the tour organisers. They were not lacking in great beers though, and the team settled down to enjoy some fantastic Pale Ale. We've also fed back to the organisers that the tour guides should review the route slightly to accommodate dropped curbs for wheelchair users. Read the full article at http://bit.ly/1sOpHGl.
Transport & Parking
We parked easily near to the first Brewery on the Tour. The Southwark Brewery.
Access
Access at all the Breweries was good.
Toilets
Only one of the breweries did not have acceptable access to disabled toilets, this is being addressed. See full article.
Staff
All the staff at each brewery are very knowledgeable on the subject of beer which made the tour most enjoyable. Since Better Mobility took the tour the guides are more aware of the difficulties that wheelchair users encounter in negotiating access and also in travelling between sites. Our feedback is now in hand to make the tours even more wheel chair friendly.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
We would certainly take the tour again as it was a fun and interesting afternoon out. A great opportunity to sample some excellent craft beers.
