Overview
Littledean Jail has been on my list of places for a year or so now as we have enjoyed visiting some other disused prisons and police stations. This is nothing like I expected. Littledean Jail is Europes largest true crime museum and covered almost every crime and scandal through history. They have warnings on the website and as you approach that this dark tourism attraction isn't for people who are easily offended or sensitive. It is not politically correct but is a bizarre collection of thought-provoking objects and media. There is a large display about the holocaust which includes photographs of the dead, striped pj’s and weapons as well as a large amount of deformed taxidermy and media scandal.
Transport & Parking
We drove to the museum. There was plenty of parking available. There is a concrete car park at the top and a gravel avenue with parking too.
Access
The disabled access isn't perfect. There is a small step to enter the museum but my manual wheelchair made it up easily. The corridors inside the museum were narrow. I am able to walk small distances so I was able to leave my chair and look at the exhibits. There was a lot to read and some of the exhibit was upstairs. There were no issues bringing my assistance dog inside.
Toilets
There were no disabled toilets. But the ladies toilets were big enough to get my wheelchair inside and then I walked into the cubicle
Staff
Staff were brilliant. Made sure we knew what we were doing and checked we were sure we wanted to proceed.
