Overview

Wow! Blown away. I was not expecting so much for a spa. First of all, the disabled spaces are right by the entrance whereas the car park is a walk away. This is on a curved hill so be aware of this. While the staff try to be on top of keeping abusers at bay, you have to do your bit by saying and seeing. Their accessability guide is one of the most comprehensive guides I've ever seen. It includes door widths, path widths, lighting used, dimensions of toilets - even where background music is played. The staff were simply adorable, not patronising, just sweet! I could tell they had been given disability awareness training (in fact it states on their website that training has been given and it shows) Every aspect was accommodating be it where I wanted to sit, what would be the most comfy (not just accessible) They even have vibrating pillow alarms should one be needed. Everywhere I went, I was asked if everything was ok and if I needed anything/help but in a way that was not intrusive or dutiful. It made me feel valid and valued. THE ALARM CORDS WERE NOT TIED UP! The place is surrounded by historic gardens which leaves some places less accessible but we were warned about that upon arrival and the doors have signs to that effect all around. On their website, The Lighthouse also lists a mobility company to hire equipment from for the duration of your stay. You will also see a list of Taxi companies in the accessibility guide showing which ones have WAVs. Pretty thorough from what I've encountered. *edited to add that there is a dropped counter at reception for wheelchair users but also a seat for those with a limited ability to stand for any amount of time* I like when companies acknowledge that disabilities are not just about wheelchairs, but come in many flavours, and this venue seems aware.
