Overview
We had a wonderful, comfortable stay in a two bedroom apartment suite here, in a perfect location for access to the city, just off Gran Vía. It is accessible with step free access from the street, a lift and room to get my mobility scooter in and out of the apartment. The staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. We stayed in the 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and living room, without the accessible bathroom. It had a walk-in shower so I had what I needed. The kitchen had a hob, microwave, family size fridge and small freezer, kettle and coffee machine. I looked at the double deluxe accessible apartment and took some pictures for this review. Their website photos are a bit better than mine: https://www.lhhoteles.com/es/hoteles/gran-via-selection/doble-de-luxe-adaptada/ We booked this place on the day after turning up to our booked aparthotel to find I couldn’t get the scooter over the threshold. In the process of looking at others across the city, it’s important to ask whether there are steps into the building because a lot of places considered their apartments accessible because they had a lift, despite not being able to get inside.
Transport & Parking
I travelled by rail which was very efficient and comfortable, with good special assistance. I wrote a separate review about the Madrid Train Station (Puerta de Atocha) and Malaga Train Station which I travelled from. We attempted the ‘accessible’ metro stations between Atocha and Puerta de Sol. We just about managed to man-handle me and the scooter onto the metro with the help of the driver. I wouldn’t recommend it!
Access
There was step free access from the street, a lift up to the apartments and room to get the mobility scooter in. The apartment we had, met my needs but didn’t have the accessible bathroom. It had a walk-in shower which was fine for me. See the pictures for the double deluxe accessible apartment, which I looked at for this review. It was spacious and attractive, clean and with a good standard accessible bathroom. The only drawback for me was the main entrance door was a single width security door and too heavy for me. There was always someone on reception to open it for me if my husband wasn’t with me. Even at 2am!
Toilets
The bathroom in the accessible room was spacious and well equipped. See photos. I didn’t take any of our own bathroom but it was nice. Quite small so not suitable for a wheelchair at all but fine for me as I’m ambulatory.
Staff
The reception staff were great. So helpful and friendly, and they spoke excellent English. The housekeeping was good too. There are staff on reception 24 hours and they do room service, although we just ordered through Just Eat or Glovo so can’t comment on the quality of the room service.
