Overview
The first challenge when I went to an event here was finding out how to get in as a wheelchair user. The premises are situated on. First floor above the shops and supermarkets of the Kirkgate shopping Centre.
Transport & Parking
Parking is available in the car park to the rear and side of the building. It's a public car park and whilst there are dedicated Blue Badge spaces you are in competition with the folk who want to go and do their shopping. Buses are a bit further away and in varying directions; the nearest being at least 300 metres of more.
Access
Although access in the Centre is fairly good the experience of getting there is not. A lift is situated between a couple of the shops in the shopping area and this takes you to a walkway to go to the Centre. It's a fair distance if you have to push yourself in a wheelchair. You can park in the car park or go up the car ramp to the few spaces on the same level but again this could be hard work for some people. Within the building there are automatic doors to get in and the halls have plenty of space. Signage was poor and it was not obvious where things were.
Toilets
Not able to find any accessible toilets and no helpful signage to indicate their presence. If this is important to your visit I'd suggesting making contact with the Centre before you set out.
Staff
The staff I encountered were not helpful but these may have been event staff rather than Centre Staff.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Not a place that felt comfortable or inviting as a disabled person. Wouldn't go again unless I really had to for a specific purpose.
