This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Powerchair
Overview
The castle is not accessible for wheelchair users but the grounds are fairly good.
Transport & Parking
Parking is by the main entrance and a well made drive takes you to the castle and gardens. It may be possible to park closer if the castle is not too busy.
Access
The main paths off the tarmac road are either compacted gravel or grass. It was ok for me as a powerchair user but might be hard work if you use a manual wheelchair. The castle is not accessible beyond the kitchen area. The greenhouse is ok and the Japanese Garden very good.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet just off the main driveway. It's not obvious but if you follow the signs to the toilets and peer in the entrance lobby you'll see it to your left. Not great on size and difficult to turn as a powerchair user. Clean and tidy; albeit with an enormous bin blocking turning. No grab rail on the door to assist in closing the door.
Staff
Staff OK but not very knowledgeable about access.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Worth visiting for the beautiful views and the peace and tranquility of the Japanese garden.
