Overview

Had booked a 2 night stay at the Langham in Eastbourne, and were really looking forward to it. However, despite checking that the room was for disabled, and that the toilet had grab rails, when we arrived, we discovered that the first room allocated had only one tiny high up grab rail near the toilet (so neither safe nor possible for me to use), the shower seat was very small - with no grab rails. The second room, I could not even get the wheelchair (which is a normal size) into the bathroom at all. The corridors were very narrow, and it was difficult to get the wheelchair through. Additionally, the lift was tiny, and caused more problems. The first room was lovely, with a fabulous view - and we would have loved to have stayed there - but it was impossible. The staff were wonderful, completely understood our difficulties, and gave us a full refund on our deposit. They tried to find us somewhere else, but it was already after 7pm, and nowhere appropriate was available in Eastbourne. We did have a small dinner at the restaurant, which was superb, before we left to find alternate accommodation (Holiday Inn, Gatwick). I would highly recommend the Langham hotel - but NOT to wheelchair users, or other physically disabled persons who need grab rails and other support features. The restaurant is, however, disabled friendly. There is a very good disabled toilet by reception - with grab rails in all the right places, and plenty of room. And the food is fantastic - almost worth the trip alone.

Transport & Parking

Access

Ramp to front door, reception area and restaurant fully accessible to me in a wheel chair. But lift very small and difficult to maneuvre in - or to have carer in at same time as wheelchair user. Corridors upstairs very narrow, and difficult for a wheelchair.

Toilets

See review. Very accessible toilet near reception - in rooms, not acceptable.
