Overview

I did some research on the area before we stayed at a cottage in the area. I found langham glass nd contacted them about accessibility for the demonstration area and access to the shop. The person who emailed back was very helpful providing information on access to the shop and demonstration area , he also said that on proof of a letter such as carers allowance my career would have free entry. He also told us that that we could also book o blow glass if we were interested in making an item. They have quite a selection of things that can be made and this is paid for nice you get to the centre . I asked what if anything I could make while sitting in my wheelchair. He said I had a choice of three items a tea light, pyramid paper weight or blow a Christmas bauble . He cost of each item varied and included one colour. When we arrived at the centre there is a drop off point at the entrance but also blue badge parking. Spaces in the car park which is a very short distance from the entrance. The car park and path to the entrance is tarmac and entry into the shop is all on flat , we aware meet at reception by a very helpful who explained to us about the demonstration that we would see and also about doing the glass blowing , she showed us what I could make. And explained the cost of each item. I choose to make a Christmas tree bauble in blue .We were told this would take place at the end of the demonstration . The receptionist took us into the area where the demonstration took place along with other guests, she found me a suitable place at the front of the seating area where I could watch the demonstration from . The demonstration lasted about 45 mins and we were told that as each piece is made by hand everyone is a bit different. The young girl doing the talk while assisting with making various items was an apprentice she had been there just a year and told us that it takes between 5-7 yrs to learn the skill. We were told all about the various techniques used and how the glass is coloured and how each item is made . It certainly was extremely interesting and informative. At the end of the demonstration I and my carer along with others who were making items were told to go to the far end of the work shop. I handed over my information sheet which said which item and what colour I was going to make and have, the man who assisted me in the making of my bauble was really nice explains each step I had to do and what he would do. I was certainly very surprised to discover it took hardly any puff at all to blow the bauble, which wasn’t what I had expected at all. Once he had put a loop of glass at the top of the bauble we were told it would be ready to collect anytime from late the next afternoon as it takes 24 hours to cool in special furnace . It was an excellent afternoon and we would certainly go back again when in the area. To have another go at making an item . There is also a coffee shop as well insight which had a good selection of hot and cold snacks and well as tea, coffee and cakes . We purchased a number of items from the shop as well.
