Overview

Accessible holiday accommodation with a patient hoist for those who need it is very hard to come by. This place does the job really well and it does so without fuss. The best website to look at is https://cove.co.uk/gwelanmor/lodges/eco/accessible/ I stayed in what they call a luxury eco-assisted-living lodge. They tell me they have three of these. From the disabled parking space, there is a ramp up to the terrace. From there, access inside the property is across a level threshold. Everything is on one level. There is a combined kitchen, dining and sitting area that is wheelchair accessible, although getting into the kitchen area was a bit tight. The sitting room benefits from a lot of technology. The property sleeps five. The accessible bedroom has an adjustable divan bed with a thick foam mattress. One side is against the wall (no cot sides). The ceiling track hoist (bring your own sling) serves one of the two beds in that room and goes through to the accessible wet room. Luxury? Yes. Eco? Maybe. Maybe not. Assisted living? First class. There is a swimming pool available with a patient hoist. There is a hot tub on the terrace, but without a hoist. The restaurant was wheelchair accessible, although we were really on a self catering holiday. On my first visit, I en gaged carers locally. This time I brought along my own carer. We were in a family group of nine, including him. Some of my family stayed in a cottage with slightly fewer adaptations, but with level access, two minutes away on the same development, but across the lane. The nearest beach is Portreath, where there is plenty of space for a wheelchair user (and excellent pasties), to watch the family, go swimming and surfing. Overall conclusion: a really really good holiday, but a bit pricey.

Transport & Parking

Parking space next to the property. I believe the nearest railway station is at Redruth, but I don't know if there are accessible taxis available. That said, a wheelchair user probably needs to be driven to get anywhere, as the lanes are very narrow.

Toilets

There is a hoist (bring your own sling) to take you from the divan bed in the accessible bedroom to the wet room. In the wet room, there is a WC with a hinged handrail on the left. On the right, there is a rail attached to the wall which appeared to be a towel rail and is probably not designed to bear weight. On the other side of the wet room is a shower with one hand rail. There is a shower chair on legs as opposed to wheels. We took my own shower wheelchair. We could do this because there were several of us and more than one car. It might be possible to hire one locally. The company said that the WC was 14 inches high, although I think it was a bit higher.

Staff

Hardly met any staff. Everything worked smoothly. Disabled access can often involve a fuss. This did not, which is why hardly ever talking to staff is a good sign. I did email them with several questions before I wrote this review, but they never got back to me.
