This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair
Overview
Canal Boats are a great way to see the countryside, however majority of which are not accessible for wheelchair users. I recently spent time on one well equipped for disabled users, as most are obviously narrow and compact. There are some which are wide whilst booklets inform you of the local amenities/stop off points such as pubs and restaurants which are accessible via wheelchair equipment included: Hydraulic lift Specially fitted WC/SHOWER Low level beds
Transport & Parking
there are many venues situated along the canal through lancaster, a booklet informs you of which ones have wheelchair access and other emenities. some of which have steps from the canal over a bridge but many have paths and low level access to local shops such as lancaster city centre
Access
Flat surfaces leading to all canal boats, galgate marina lancaster lift chair on the larger barges wide space specially equipped for wheelchair users low level beds and surfaces
Toilets
specially equipped shower and toilet
Staff
staff in and around the canal are extremely friendly and happy to help
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Canal boats are a good way of escaping busy life, the fresh air and wild life makes you feel part of the good old british countryside. there are many old towns and villages with friendly residents and the best thing for someone who utilises a wheelchair is that you can enjoy all this the same as anyone else, as you pass by at a steady speed without haveing to move at all
