Wheelchair-accessible Relaxed Drinks and Dining in Central Madrid

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair

Overview

In the heart of the central neighbourhood of La Latina in Madrid, La China Mandarina is a modern and trendy bar-restaurant which, aside from the small step to enter the front door, is entirely accessible for wheelchair users. We were a large group of 10, with one wheelchair user, and the staff - as usual - treated us very well, giving us a sizeable table in the middle of the room. They have a full drinks menu (including a huge choice of teas for the non-imbibers) as well as food. The toilets are on the same level as the seating area, and my wheelchaired friend informed me reliably that they were big enough to do wheelies in, if you really wanted to. It was one of the group's birthdays, and the staff were good enough to give us plates and cutlery - and even candles! - for the cake we had brought to share. Can't recommend enough!

Transport & Parking

Madrid's Metro is not particularly wheelchair-friendly. There is a map you can find online which indicates which metro stations are step-free, and there are very few in the centre which are. The Circanías trains are mostly all accessible, however. That said, in order to get to this particular place, we got a taxi for ease.

Access

Aside from the small step to enter the front door (which we lifted our wheelchair-user over), the whole place is wheelchair-friendly.

Toilets

The wheelchair-accessible toilet is marked as the female toilet and is on the same floor as the bar/restaurant. The door is pull-open. There is plenty of space for a wheelchair, and a carer if required. There is a grab rail. They are usually always clean and tidy.

Staff

The staff here are very friendly. I'm pretty sure they can speak English, and certainly to the extent of ordering food and drinks. Fran is a star and gave me accessibility advice before we came, face-to-face and on the phone.
