Overview

From the creative mind of the architect Piet Bloom, experience unique houses that were designed to look like a modern forest. Constructed in 1977, this site contains 38 regular sized cube houses and two larger cube houses. Each home is tilted 45 degrees on a hexagon shaped column that serves as the home entry point and staircase. Though entry into the museum cube is not wheelchair accessible, the unique neighborhood has a wheelchair accessible ramp so you can enjoy the home exteriors as well as a couple interesting shops and a small chess museum.

Transport & Parking

The houses can be reached by metro, taxi, or car. Accessible parking is available in the nearby Markthal. They are also a 25 minute walk from the Amsterdam Centraal train station.

Access

A wheelchair accessible ramp is available to access the houses. Walking around the neighborhood is a unique experience and definitely worth the visit. The interior of the homes are not wheelchair accessible. The museum cube has steps, small rooms and low ceilings which is not suitable for all disabilities. Some of the shops located within the neighborhood have smaller door ways that may or may not be wheelchair accessible.

Toilets

No accessible toilets are located at the cube houses themselves, but there are toilets at the nearby Markthal.

Staff

Because it is mainly a residential area, there are no official staff members. However the people who work at the cube museum and other shops are helpful.
