Overview
We went by car to attend a Lego exhibition where tickets included the train journey. The locomotive is very accessible (ramp, tables, space and toilet). The station itself, cafe and parking experience wasn't that good (poor signage and layout) and I didn't see any ramps into outer building housing the model railway. Doable but only just.
Transport & Parking
No signage to the flat, hard surface, accessible parking area by the ticket office (gate closed and sign removed) meaning we parked by driving through a field and parking on grass near the path! The venue is about an hour from the motorway through some bumpy country roads.
Access
We had pre booked our train space which is fully accessible via ramp. The carriage is spacious with high tables and an accessible toilet (see below). We didn't get off at the end of the line but we could have. The station has hard surfaces between buildings with some wear and pot holes. I noticed some outer buildings had no ramps and the temporary exhibit marquee also had no ramps. The cafe has to be accessed via heavy doors used as the exit. Then you have to negotiate close tables to the far side and remove a rope barrier to join the food queue. The menus were largely chalk board and may be hard to read. The area has a noisy echo.
Toilets
Very difficult to use due to lack of space. Had to take the bins outside and still had trouble getting in the transfer space. The ladies and gents had a step to enter. The toilet block was pretty cold and the tiled floor wet due to wet shoes from the rain. They were clean. On the train there is an accessible toilet with one left sided grab rail. It can only be used when the train is moving - so good luck if you can't balance!!
Staff
Very polite.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The cafe food was excellent.
