Overview
Well appointed hotel adjacent to Brighton Railway station and 10 minutes walk from seafront. Spacious accessible room, excellent bathroom facilities, good lifts and well trained and really helpful staff. Would be very happy to stay there again .
Transport & Parking
the hotel doesn't have any parking facility itself but guests can use the large station car park just opposite the hotel entrance. There is a generous allocation of disabled parking spaces which are free to blue badge holders. ( Station parking charges apply to all other guests). the disabled parking is a few yards further from the hotel nearest the station back entrance. Being right outside the station means train transport is easy and buses serve the station too , so no problems
Access
level access , automatic doors , wide foyer , no doors into the public areas , including the restaurant. Ample lifts with good space inside so no problems for wheel chairs getting to all floors. The accessible bedroom I stayed in had a working automatic door which enabled easy departure from the room and unlike most hotels with automatic doors , the mechanism was in good working order. The only issue was that the door was only automatic from inside the room , not on entry and overcoming the inertia to push the door open was difficult. Getting out was a breeze Roomy entrance to bathroom and plenty of space for transfers both in bathroom and bedroom.
Toilets
Forgot to look at disabled loo in public area , but in bathroom , it was above standard height which made transfers easy , Plenty of grab rails around it and an easy flush handle. The bathroom had a level access shower , non slip tiles , lots of grab rails , lever shower , sturdy seat, wheelchair accessible washbasin and alarm cords alongside both shower and loo. Lots of space for wheelchair and transfers
Staff
Staff were all friendly and helpful. The member of staff who was on the desk every morning for the 3 days i spent there, made sure I could access what I needed , brought items from the buffet for me as i was on my own, all with no fuss and bother. She was very impressive and I wish I had made a note of her name as she really went the extra mile! I was also impressed that the reception staff ensured that they knew what help I would need in any hotel evacuation. Too often hotels forget that important piece of information and it is still a minority of hotels that make the effort to do it.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Really impressed that Jurys Inn Brighton had made a real effort to make their accessible rooms , accessible. They had looked at details eg low clothes hanging rail, easy opening bathroom doors , big button phone, lots of grab rails and fully functional alarm cords. I suspect the bed would be too low for many wheelchair users , but being small , it was not an issue for me. There was reasonable space under the bed so probably ok for a portable hoist , but not really sure. Would need to discuss that with the hotel but since they had done so much so well , probably would be able to advise. Large room , very clean and very comfortable . Would definitely use again
