Mainly accessible train station with helpful staff
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid
Overview
Johnstone train station provides rail travel between Johnstone and Glasgow (platform 1), and Johnstone and the Ayrshire coast (platform 2).
Transport & Parking
Entrance to the train station is via one of three entrances. The main entrance is beside the car park, where there are several accessible car parking spaces for blue badge holders. There is a drop off/pick up area adjacent to the door of the ticket office.
Access
Platform 2 (for trains travelling from Johnstone to stations towards Ayr / Largs / Adrossan is accessed via a footbridge. This bridge has several flights of stairs therefore getting from the car park to platform 2 is difficult for people with restricted mobility or who use a walking aid and impossible for those using a wheelchair. That said, there is alternate access to platform 2 through a housing estate (ramped access) or from the Main Street. Unfortunately, neither of these entrances offers car parking facilities.
Toilets
There are toilets on platform 1. The toilets were not visited at the time of this review.
Staff
Station staff are helpful and approachable.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
There is a gap between the platform and trains arriving / leaving Johnstone station however the staff are able to arrange access via portable ramps if this is pre-arranged. The ticket office is a small, level access building situated close to the car park and this leads onto platform 1 (which travels in the direction of Glasgow Central station). There is also a ticket machine situated beside the ticket office.
