This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Hearing Aid, Powerchair

Overview

This is a modern Centre which only officially opened In April 2018. The accessibility is very good and Wheelchair users can access all parts of the building and the grounds.

Transport & Parking

4

There are a limited number of disabled parking spaces (about 7). But the parking is only a short walk away from the centre. There is some gravel in the car park which may make it a little bit bumpy but it is not too difficult. At least not for a Powerchair.

Access

4.5

There is level access throughout the centre and the grounds. There is lots of space in the shop and reception area of the centre, as well as the exhibition sections. The main exhibition area is on the ground floor and there is another exhibition section on the first floor, with a lift available. Most videos have subtitles so hearing-impaired people can understand what is being said. There is a paved path to the Memorial Spire and the walls bearing the names of servicemen killed in bomber command. There is level access all around this area. There is a cafe that is fully accessible and does nice food and drink – both hot and cold.

Toilets

3.5

There is one disabled toilet on the ground floor and one on the first floor. They are a manageable size but it was a little bit tricky turning around my Powerchair once inside.

Staff

4.5

The staff are very friendly, Helpful, and happy to talk.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There is lots to see in the exhibition areas which will probably take up at least 3 hours. If you are interested in World War II I would definitely recommend a visit.
