Overview
This location at Cardiff Bay is uniquely geeky and a highlight for Whovians, serving as a shrine to commemorate the (fictional) life of Torchwood fan favourite Ianto Jones. It's no secret that the show filmed many scenes around Cardiff Bay, with the Torchwood Three entrance just around the corner at Roald Dahl Plass, but I love that this location exists for fans the world over.
Transport & Parking
There are no parking spaces in the immediate vicinity. However, the Mermaid Quay car park on Stuart Street, located 150 metres away, offers 380 spaces, 16 of which are accessible. Please note that there is a charge for parking here. Cardiff Bay Train Station is 480 metres from Ianto's Shrine. Additionally, a bus stop outside the Millennium Centre, 320 metres away, provides access to the following services: 1 City Circle, 1A, 6 Baycar, 8, 304, 305, Sky, and X2.
Access
There are two routes to the shrine, accessible whether walking or wheeling. The first is a gentle slope at Roald Dahl Plass, which I found easier to navigate as a manual wheelchair user. Alternatively, a route just above the Ianto Shrine at Mermaid Quay features a long wooden ramp with rails on either side, leading down to the pier. While it has a steeper incline, the added safety of the rails may make it a preferable option for some. Along the bay, you'll find there are plenty of benches where you can rest.
Toilets
There are no toilets here.
