Overview
Mid-price hotel in central Barcelona with decent wheelchair access and helpful staff - a real find.
Transport & Parking
We didn't try to drive on this trip as we were staying in the city centre, so I can't comment on the parking, but the public transport was great. There are wheelchair accessible buses everywhere and most metro stations are accessible too, including Sant Antoni, the nearest one to the hotel.
Access
There are no steps at the entrance to the hotel, and good permanent ramps with handrails where needed inside. I had hired quite a large mobility scooter which was too big for the lift, but that's fair enough - I just switched to a manual wheelchair to go up to our room. The staff were really cool about finding a place where I could leave the big scooter on charge when I wasn't using it. The room we had was a good size and the bathroom was massive. I'd say the rails around the loo were more successful than those around the bath, though - I think they could do with some occupational therapy advice there! I can't get in and out of a bath, but I was able to sit on a reasonably wide tiled area at one end, and there was a shower on a long hose.
Toilets
The loo in our bathroom had good rails and was easy for me to use. Nice and clean, as you'd hope for a hotel bathroom.
Staff
We had a really good experience with them, from when I got in touch beforehand with some questions about the access, right through to the end of our stay. They happily agreed to put a child's bed into one of their accessible rooms so I, my partner and our young son could all stay together, and they were unfazed by finding a place for my hired scooter to stay on charge.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
It is very hard generally to find a hotel room step free, with rails in the bathroom and large enough to manoeuvre wheelchairs and walking frames around. For this room to be a reasonable price (for the centre of a major European city), and for the staff to agree to put in a third bed for a child, was exceptional. Hotel Market is sometimes a little battered around the edges, and the shower/bath could use some work, but it's what made our stay in Barcelona possible.
